AAC IFCS Team - Assistant Managers Positions

Sept. 08, 2011

After examining the five applications received for the assistant manager(s) position for the AAC IFCS Team, the Board has the pleasure to announce that Shona Thirsk and Gay Harley have been chosen to assist Tracy Sklenar, team manager and coach. We welcome them on board and we know they will help Tracy and the other members of the committee by assuming the many and various tasks that will be entrusted to them.

Measuring for IFCS Team

Sue Miller will measure the dogs of the applicants for the IFCS Team on Friday, Aug. 5th, after the Sanctioned Steeplechase, before the Opening Ceremonies of the Nationals, at the main stage. There will be PA announcements.

IFCS Team - Handler Requirement

The committee wants to clarify the following Handler requirement : “The handler must have participated at a minimum of 6 approved AAC trials in a 2 year period, i.e. 2010 and 2011 (beside Regionals and Nationals – minimum number of classes run per trial is 4, list of trial and classes must be supplied with application).”

This requirement encompasses all the dogs the handler is running in AAC trials, not only the one that is named on your Intent form/application. Most of you have more than one dog, so just cumulate all those runs.

Since some handler may want to see how they do at Nationals before committing, the date for receiving in your Intent form has been extended to August 23rd, 2011, i.e. 2 weeks after the AAC Nationals.

There are two ways to send your Intent form in. Print it, fill it, sign it and send it by snail mail OR print it, fill it, sign it, scan it and send it by e-mail.

Don’t forget to print you Measuring form and take it with you to the AAC Nationals for Sue Miller to measure your dog and sign it. The times at which Sue will be available to measure your dog will be published on the AAC Website before the Nationals.

AAC IFCS Team - Assistant Manager Needed

The Board recently accepted the resignation of Nina Durante as assistant manager of the AAC IFCS Team that will go to the USA in May 2012. The job being quite demanding, we would like to have two members assist the coach/manager, Tracy Sklenar.

So, if you're supremely organized, graceful under pressure and up for a little adventure, consider applying for the position of AAC World Team Assistant manager.

The two jobs will be filled from the same pool of applicants, and duties will be split between the two members in accordance with the skills, experience and preferences of the two top applicants.

Duties will include:

  • assisting the team with all aspects of preparation, including: making travel arrangements and complying with health/veterinary requirements;
  • acting as liaison between team members, event officials, and the AAC Board;
  • coordinating the fundraising campaign and working with the AAC's Financial Services Officer in the management of income and expenses;
  • assisting team members with selecting and acquiring uniforms and other gear;
  • coordinating remote coaching and other preparatory exercises;
  • at the event, supporting team members in a variety of ways;
  • generally being the go-to person for the team

Experience with international travel requirements and bureaucracy, great communication and people skills, and a flexible schedule will all be considered assets.

These are volunteer positions; however, the AAC will cover travel costs and a small per diem for meals. Both assistant managers will share in funds raised by the team. In past years, fundraising has successfully covered virtually all additional expenses.

To apply, send contact information, a description of relevant experience, and an explanation outlining why you think you'd be perfect for the job to Cindy Swiney at swineyc@xplornet.ca. Applications must be received by August 31, 2011.

IFCS 2012 World Team Announcement

To all the those who are thinking of applying for the team that will be representing Canada and the AAC at the IFCS championship in 2012, tape your runs at your AAC Regionals, at any USDAA Regional, at the AAC Nationals and at any international event you run. Furthermore, tape 3 Master Snooker runs and 2 AAC Challenge runs from the 2011 season.

NOTICE - June 14 2011

Due to the fact that in some areas, very few AAC Challenge classes are offered, the Selection committee of the IFCS team that will represent AAC will accept USDAA Grand Prix and USDAA IHC classes results and videos.
