BoD Meeting Thursday, December 17, 2015

  1. The Board adopts the Visual Identity Guide, which describes the appropriate and authorized uses of the AAC brand (logo, etc.).
  2. The National Team fundraising activities are proceeding, including supporter shirts, a recipe book, and a recent online auction.
  3. Data migration for the new AAC information system is under way, as well as development of the new and improved website - a portal to all of AAC's online services. The system is expected to go live in March 2016. The AAC will be looking for a Technical System Administrator to handle maintenance and questions. Keep your eyes posted in future On Course editions.
  4. The Board amended motion 150913 to reflect the original dimensions specified in the "Small Indoor Spaces" pilot project, which ended in July of this year. Those dimensions were: at least 60 feet wide (no variance) and a minimum area of 8,000 square feet.

  1. The Board accepts the Judges’ Standing Advisory Committee that backside/pushback-style moves not be allowed in course design for the double, ascending, and broad jumps and for the tire. (Effective once translated and posted.)
  2. The Board adopts a rule clarification to specify that jump standards may not be staked down at any time, but may be stabilized using a displaceable weight in such as way as to not interfere with the dog’s path. (Effective once translated and posted.)
  3. The Board adopts rule changes to increase the flexibility of Team course design, effective July 1, 2016.
  4. The minutes of the July 23, 2015, meeting are amended to clarify the specifications for the wall jump (width of the wall at the 26” jump height).
  5. Dog registration fees will increase to $15 for non-members as of January 1st, 2016. The dog registration fees for members will remain at $12.
  6. The Safety Committee is reviewing reported incidents involving the chute.
  7. Proposals have now been accepted for the 2016 Regional Championships in all regions, including the following events:
    • BC/Yukon Regionals, to be held in Langley, BC, June 17-19;
    • NS/NF Regionals, to be held in Truro, NS, May 21-22
  8. The Board was asked about the practice, adopted by some clubs, of providing online copies of course maps on the day of the event. The Board resolved that the rules allow this, as long as the maps are not offered online before the paper copies are provided to competitors on site.

  1. The nomination period for the AAC 2016 Elections is now closed. Elections will be held in NS-NF and in ON East; the other positions are filled by acclamation. For more information on the nominees: 2015 Nominees
    Following the election by acclamation of Colleen Fowler as Treasurer, the Board appoints her to fill this vacant position immediately.
  2. In response to a question from a member, the Board indicates that the cost of the AAC Database project (actually, a complete upgrade of AAC systems, including an updated website and automating currently manual functions) will cost 139 thousand dollars. This project followed a competitive bid process and the cost was budgeted.
  3. The Board accepts the recommendations from the National Steering Committee (NSC) to accept the following applications to hold Regional Championships in 2016:
    • NB-PEI, in Sussex NB, June 11-12;
    • AB-NWT, in Calgary AB, June 18-19;
    • SK-MB, Aberdeen SK, May 21-22
  4. The Board reminds all participants to report any safety-related incidents   AAC Injury Report Form - this form also applies to any situation where a dog COULD have been injured, to allow the Board to make informed decisions on safety issues.
  5. In response to a question from a member, the Board points out that no rule determines when the trial host schedules dog measurements at a trial, but recommends that hosts and competitors collaborate to resolve any conflicts in a fair manner.
  6. A question about the "European" style of tire has been sent to the Equipment Committee.
  7. Reports from various committees, examining different rules and issues. (An amazing amount of work and discussion takes place behind the scenes before the Board can come to a decision on such issues.)

  1. The Board approved a rule clarification as to when a dog is considered back on course after wrong course penalty. This change will take effect January 1, 2016.
  2. Following the Small Spaces Trial Project, the Board agreed to allow indoor trials to be held in spaces at least 65 feet wide and 8000 square feet, effective immediately.
  3. The Board accepted the Membership Committee’s recommended definition of a “member not in good standing”.
  4. The Board approved the concept of a Junior Handler who runs a dog in the Regular stream being able to earn a double Q (one for the dog, one of the handler). The Junior Handler Committee is examining the implementation of this change.
  5. The Standing Rule Committee is looking into a change to the Team rules to allow greater difference between sides.
  6. National Team planning and fundraising activities are underway – see the team site (http://aacnationalteam.org/) for more information. The deadline to apply for Team management positions has been extended to September 30.

  7. Concerns have been expressed about being the first dog and handler on the line after a course walkthrough (less time to walk or need to rush the dog to the line). While trial management is the responsibility of the host club, the Board did discuss some solutions adopted by various clubs (break between walkthrough and start of the event; allowing the first few handlers to begin walking the course during final tweaking, varying the running order through the day, etc.)
  8. The Board discussed some safety concerns related to course design. The concerns are referred to the Judges Standing Advisory Committee.

  1. The 2015 Nationals are in the books. In particular, the AAC 3-Dog Team competition was very popular, and the AAC will continue to offer it in the years to come. There was some discussion about how to improve the event next year.
  2. The Board reviewed the results of the rule allowing food and toys in the warm-up rings. Over 2/3 of handlers observed used a motivator (including 1/3 who used food). No issues were reported during the Nationals events.
  3. Presentation to the Board of the selected AAC National Team members, team contract, and code of conduct. Our congratulations to all prospective members! The team will be announced as soon as all members have signed the contract.
  4. The following bids to host Regionals in 2016 have been approved: Québec (Lévis, June 25-26) and Ontario West (Barrie, June 3-5). The National Steering Committee is reviewing the remaining bids. Bids have now been received for all regions except BC/Yukon.
  5. Discussion about the upcoming implementation of the AAC Database, which involves complex technical and financial issues. The AAC will need a technical support administrator and is reviewing translation needs for the web site and help files.
  6. The Board is seeking members for the new Development Committee. From the AAC web site: “This Committee will play a pivotal role in helping the Board define the future direction of AAC and promote the growth of our member-driven organization.” Click on; < Dev-Committee > , for more information.

  1. The Board agrees to buy medals for the AAC 3-Dog Team award at Nationals (maximum cost of $200).
  2. After further discussion of the motion to allow food and toys in the warm-up rings at Regionals and Nationals,the Board decides to go ahead this year and re-evaluate after this year’s Nationals.
  3. Discussion of progress on the AAC database design and implementation.
  4. 72 handlers have applied to join the AAC National Team (there are 16 open positions plus 4 positions for past medalists). Fundraising activities are being planned.
  5. The National Steering Committee is evaluating the bids for the Quebec and Ontario West Regionals, as well as the new bids for Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Nunavut, Alberta/Northwest Territories and New-Brunswick/Prince-Edward-Island.
  6. Members are reminded that they can report problems, concerns, or suggestions to their regional director; ( Directors ). They can also file complaints in case of issues related to trials or other AAC-related matters (using the all-purpose Incident Report form; ( Incident Report Form ).

  1. Prospective National Team members are reminded to apply before the closing date for the Nationals. Team Management positions will be filled after Nationals to allow anyone not on the team to apply.
  2. Bids for the following 2016 Regionals events are being reviewed: NB-PEI, Quebec, Ontario West, Alberta-NWT. The bid for the 2016 Nationals in Quebec has been accepted.
  3. The rule concerning dogs ineligible to compete in AAC events is modified to include bitches in an advanced state of pregnancy.
  4. Toys and food may be allowed at Regional and Nationals warm-up events, subject to certain conditions (respecting any site-specific restrictions, in good repair, no squeakers, no training aids, food fed by hand only, warm-up runs to be over before the start of the aggregate rounds).

  1. The Board accepts the Standing Rules Committee (SRC) recommendation that double-drop vets (DD) will be scored separately from single-drop vets at all regular AAC trials. 16- and 10‑inch DD vets will receive Open Vet times, 6-inch DD vets, Mini Vet times. (Effective January 1, 2016.)
  2. Planning for the 2016 AAC National Team (shirts, travel, etc.) has begun.
  3. The Board accepts the application from Absolute Agility to hold the 2016 Ontario East Regionals at Harrowsmith, June 3-5, 2016. Bids for the 2016 Ontario West and Quebec Regionals and for the 2016 Nationals are being reviewed.

Rule changes are effective January 1, 2016, except as noted.

  1. Shipping of the AAC Rulebook has begun! The Regional Directors are coordinating distribution within each region.
  2. The AAC National Team earned an unprecedented 13 medals at the IFCS World Championship, with medals for several team members.

  3. The Board reminds members that the AAC website is the definite source of information about approved/sanctioned trials. The AAC does not control unofficial information about planned trials published or communicated by clubs.
  4. The Board also reminds members that dogs may be entered in Regional and Nationals at any height for which they are eligible on the date of the event.
  5. The AAC accepts the following recommendations from the Standing Rules Committee (SRC):
    • Winged jumps mandatory for backside jumps (effective May 1, 2015)
    • Wall jump only faulted if a brick falls.
    • Broad jump will not be faulted if dog touches or knocks corner post.
    • Non-completion in Steeplechase will result in Elimination.
    • Breaking open the tire will not be faulted at this time, due to the lack of standardization for tire construction. We continue to review the issue of tire standardization.

    Discussion continues on various other topics.

  6. The Safety Committee has received one injury report (caused by a jump cup). Please remember that injury reports provide essential information to allow the AAC to continue to improve safety.
  7. The AAC Judges clinic in Medicine Hat, Alberta, on August 7-9, 2015 is approved.
  8. Bids have been received, and are being reviewed, for the 2016 Quebec and Ontario East Regionals, as well as the 2016 Nationals (in Quebec).

Here are the highlights of the AAC Board meeting held on Thursday,March 19, 2015.

  

  1. Arrangements are under way to print the AAC Rulebook (8.5”x11” format, spiral-bound) and distribute it to members, on demand.:
  2. The AAC will host an AAC Team Championship at Nationals and award cash prizes to the top three teams (each team will consist of three dogs and three handlers from the same region, results based on Nationals scores, restricted to AAC members).
  3. Judges’ Clinics approved:
    • Club Agilité Montérégie, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu QC, July 24-26 2015;;
    • Leaps N Bounds, Aldergrove BC, August 15-18 2015.
  4. National Team Report: Team jackets and shirts being distributed to team members. Everyone is getting excited about leaving soon for Italy. There will be livestreaming of the championship (http://cynosport.tv/)
  5. The Equipment Committee continues to examine the design and safety of various obstacles (for example, chute, specifications for the wall jump).

  1. Rule changes (in effect January 1, 2016, unless otherwise indicated):
    • New wording concerning jump bar markings (effective immediately, existing bars grandfathered till January 1, 2016);
    • Clarification of the rules concerning the handler touching the dog or an obstacle.

  2. National Team news:
    • The AAC will sponsor the AAC National Dog Agility team by covering the following costs: team uniforms with the AAC National Team logo, team entry fees, travel expenses for the team manager and assistant manager (total sponsorship not to exceed $13,000);
    • Travel arrangements being completed;
    • Fundraising is winding down, but a garage sale and an online auction raised about $7,000 in total;
    • The Team's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/AACNationalTeam) now includes a Featured Dog section. This feature is proving very popular.
  3. The 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on April 25 at the TaG Agility trial in Black Creek, BC.

Unless otherwise indicated, rule changes will come in effect January 1, 2016.

 

  1. The Board modifies the rules for FEO runs at trials to allow the use of toys, and of tugging, at the club’s discretion. No food or auditory aids (e.g. clicker, squeaky toy) are allowed.
  2. The AAC will create a Development Committee to monitor the evolution of Agility in Canada and investigate ways for the AAC to adapt, as required.
  3. The 2015 NS/NF Regionals will be held May 23-24 in Halifax, NS.
    The 2015 NB/PEI Regionals will be held June 13-14 in Sussex, NB.
  4. The Board approves the revised criteria for judge candidates.
  5. The National Team has found two locations in Italy where to train before the IFCS World Championships, allowing it to practice on different sets of equipment. The Team is holding a second fund-raising auction and planning other fundraising activities. The Board agrees that the Team will run a silent auction at Nationals, which will include the AAC one-piece jumps, and will keep all proceeds to help fund its activities.
    The 2015 Nationals premium list will include an insert for applicants for the next Team.
  6. In a special meeting, Carole Côté was re-elected as the director for Quebec.
    Roger Perron was elected as the BC Mainland/Yukon director.
